50: An Introduction to Freestyle. The philosophy of freestyle is introduced. Freestyle basics are explained as well as using freestyle as a point of departure to learn skysurfing and vertical RW (freeflying). Textbooks: The Inner Athlete by Dan Millman, Basic Freestyle Notes by Tamara Koyn and A Video Guide to Freestyle by Tamara Koyn. Prerequisite: None.
52: Safety Procedures and Considerations for 3-D Flying. The aspects of safety presented in this class are applicable to solo dives as well as dives with other partners. Textbooks: Basic Freestyle Notes by Tamara Koyn. Prerequisite: None.
53: Equipment for 3-D Flying. Participants learn about special equipment needs and considerations for 3-D flying. Harness & container systems, jumpsuits and more are covered. Textbooks: More Freestyle Notes; 2nd Ed. by Tamara Koyn. Prerequisite: 50.
55: Basics of 3-Dimensional Freefall Control. This class is for students who have just graduated from a student training program. Actual freefall exercises and techniques for learning to cope with out-of-control tumbling, spinning while face or back down, dizziness, and sense of elapsed time are presented. Off-student status novices may wish to perform the exercises described in class in freefall only under the supervision of a rated jumpmaster or instructor. Prerequisite: 160.
60: Ground Training. Basic techniques for using ground training to effectively increase your learning curve and decrease your costs in attaining a particular skill are covered. This class is for you no matter which skydiving discipline you pursue. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisite: None.
70: Feeling the Air. By performing the exercises and techniques presented in this class, participants will develop a better physical awareness of the relative wind. The techniques are instrumental in helping participants to relax and actually feel the interaction between the windflow and the body. Prerequisite: 52, 55 and 160.
80: Moving in Your Freefall "Kinesphere." Through a thorough discussion of the principle elements of human movement, this class will help participants to be more aware and understand how they move and rotate in a 3-dimensional space. 101: Creativity. Class participants learn how to invent freestyle or skysurfing maneuvers and avoid brainlock by using a system for inspiring creativity as well as a card game for creating new moves. You should bring to class a pack of index cards. Texts for freestyle participants: The Aerial Freestyle Guide Book by Dale Stuart, Basic Freestyle Notes by Tamara Koyn, and A Video Guide to Freestyle by Tamara Koyn. Prerequisite: 50 and 80.
105: Building Learning Progressions. By focusing on freestyle or skysurfing maneuvers, participants will learn how to plan learning progressions and to use them as a point of departure for learning freestyle, skysurfing or vertical RW (freeflying) as they desire. Prerequisite: 50 and 101.
110: Knee Flying. This class is an introduction to upright flying and describes how knee flying may be learned and utilized for flying relative. Text: "Knee Flying" in Parachutist magazine April 1996. Prerequisites: 50, 52 and 53.
111: Rodeo Dives. Rodeo Dives are skydives which involve two people usually with one mounting the other partner in some manner. Safety tips and different rodeo maneuvers will be taught. Prerequisites: 50, 52 and 53.
120: Pre-Skysurfing. Freestyle moves and preliminary exercises to master in order to safely begin skysurfing are covered in this class. Prerequisite: 50, 52 and 53.
121: Skysurfing Equipment and Malfunctions. This class provides an introduction to skysurfing equipment and hanging harness drills on malfunction procedures. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53 and 120.
141: Awareness for 3-D Flying. Learn how to conquer sensory overload and how to maintain freefall awareness so that you can critique your performance while attempting complex maneuvers in freestyle and/or skysurfing. This class also covers performing freestyle on night jumps. You should be able to perform at least 5 maneuvers in your chosen discipline before attending this class and freestylists be familiar with The Aerial Freestyle Guide Book by Dale Stuart. Prerequisite: 50, 80 and 101.
150: Freestyle Exits. Class includes information about planning safe exits, dirt diving exits, different freestyle exit techniques for exiting in different orientations, using momentum, exiting from different types of aircraft and more. Before attending this class, participants should be able to perform 5 freestyle moves at terminal velocity. Prerequisite: 50, 52 and 53.
160: Relaxation Workshop. Class members learn how to use relaxation to improve their skydiving skills whether that be RW, freestyle, etc., and practice a Progressive Relaxation technique prepared by Richard M. Suinn, Ph.D.
165: The Skydiver's Warm-up Exercise Workshop. In this workshop, participants learn movement exercises which will, in general, increase body awareness and control. Prerequisite: 60. Instructor: TBA.
166: Orientation Workshop. During swimming pool practice, students will learn how to use the pool as a training aid and learn awareness of body positions and orientation. Bring a swim suit and face mask. (Nose clips will be available during the class.) Prerequisite: 60.
170: Freestylist/Skysurfer and Camera Flyer as a Team. The freestylist and camera flyer have a unique working relationship that changes throughout the training process. This class will examine the details of that working relationship and how you can benefit. Interested freestylists/skysurfers as well as camera flyers should attend this class. Text: "Freestyle and Photographer: Working Together as a Team" in Skydiving Magazine February 1995. Prerequisite: 50.
171: Freestyle Competition. The current rules are explained in full detail. You will also learn tips on performing the compulsory figures and how you can set up your training program to prepare for competition. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53 and 105.
180: Nomenclature for Freestyle Maneuvers. Several systems for naming and categorizing freestyle maneuvers will be introduced. Prerequisite: 50, 80 and 101.
181: Aerodynamics. You learn how the relative wind interacts with your body and what different body movements cause which actions. This class will enhance your understanding of flying your body regardless of the discipline you pursue. Prerequisite: 80.
190: Introduction to VRW. Participants learn what VRW (freeflying) is about and what the possibilities are. Text: "Conversations About New Wave Skydiving" in Skydiving Magazine January 1995. Prerequisites: 50, 101 and 105.
191: Basic Headup Flying Stance. Class participants will learn the basics for practicing and performing the basic standing position which is instrumental for progressing further in vertical RW. Pirouettes are also covered. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105 and 190.
192: Basic Head-down Flying Stance. Class participants will learn the basics for practicing and performing the basic head-down position which is instrumental for progressing in VRW (freeflying). 201: Choreography. Class participants will learn how they can sequence maneuvers into sequences and sequences into routines. Participants should know how to perform at least 10 maneuvers in either skysurfing or freestyle before enrolling in this class. 202: Improvisation. You will learn how to release your soul and learn to play again discovering a new freedom and your own personal art in movement. Text: Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Back, Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel and The Moment of Movement; Dance Improvisation by Lynne Anne Blom and L. Tarin Chaplin. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53, 70, 80 and 101.
205: Dive Engineering. Participants learn how to structure their training programs for maximum learning and performance and preparing for freestyle or skysurfing competition. Participants should know how to perform at least 10 maneuvers and have a list of 5 additional maneuvers they wish to learn before enrolling in this class. Prerequisite: 105.
221: Skysurfing. Planning your first skysurfing jumps and planning your progress onto larger boards. Note: Before making your first skysurfing jump, you must demonstrate on video, the freestyle skills described in 120. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53, 120 and 121.
260: Flexibility Workshop. You will be introduced to some basic flexibility exercises and will learn how to design and implement a flexibility training program for your skydiving needs. Text: Stretching by Bob Anderson. Prerequisite: 60 and 160.
261: Mental Imagery. The theory on using mental imagery will be presented including in-class practice. Text: In Pursuit of Excellence; How to Win in Sport and Life Through Mental Training by Terry Orlick, PhD. Prerequisite: 60 and 160.
262: Controlling Performance Anxiety. You learn how performance anxiety effects you and various techniques for controlling and making performance anxieties work for you rather than against you. Text: Psychology and Sport Behavior by Anne Marie Bird and Bernette K. Cripe. Prerequisite: 60 and 160.
263: Coordination Workshop. Participants practice movement exercises that deal with improving the coordination of their body movements. This class is recommended to those interested in improving their body control. Prerequisite: 60 and 165.
280: 3-D Freefall Movement Analysis. Participants learn how to analyze video and conduct debriefs. While the focus is on freestyle, class material is useful to skysurfers and freeflyers. Participants should bring video of their own work. Prerequisite: 50, 80 and 181.
291: Basic Headup Proximity Control. Through theory lecture and ground exercises, participants learn how to correctly perform forward and backward movement in the headup flying stance. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190 and 191.
292: Basic Head-down Proximity Control. Through theory lecture and ground exercises, participants learn how to correctly perform forward and backward movement in the head-down flying stance. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190 and 192.
293: Basic Headup Level Control. During lecture and ground exercises, participants learn how to control fallrate and to control fallrate while in control of proximity in the headup flying stance. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191 and 291.
294: Basic Head-down Level Control. During lecture and ground exercises, participants learn how to control fallrate and to control fallrate while in control of proximity in the head-down flying stance. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 192 and 292.
298: Basic Head-down Daffy Stance. Class participants will learn the basics for practicing and performing the basic head-down Daffy position. Performing pirouettes and controlling relativity in the head-down Daffy are also covered. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 192, 292 and 294.
299: Introductory 2-way VRW. Class participants learn how to implement a training program for performing initial 2-way dives. Participants are required to attend this class with a partner who is also attending this class. Text: Skydive 100: Basic Body Flight by the Skydive University. 300: New Freestyle Maneuvers. Enroll in this class and submit 2-3 moves that you wish to learn. Enroll in this class as many times as you like to learn additional maneuvers! Prerequisite 50, 52, 53, 101 and 105.
350: VRW Exit Techniques. Class includes information about planning safe exits, dirt diving exits, different exit techniques, exiting from different types of aircraft and more. Prerequisite: 50, 52, 53, 150, 190, 191 and 291.
390: 3-D camera flying. Learn filming techniques to capture clean and creative video images. You will need to be able to perform a basic flying stance, forwards and backwards movement, and control fallrate at speeds of 130 mph to 180 mph before you will be able to apply concepts taught in this class. Text: Sight, Sound, Motion by Herbert Zettl. Instructors: Tamara Koyn and TBA. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 192, 291, 292, 293 and 294.
391: Intermediate Headup VRW. Centered pirouettes, side sliding, superpositioning (including carving) and swooping techniques for flying headup are covered. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 291 and 293.
392: Intermediate Head-down VRW. Centered pirouettes, side sliding, superpositioning (including carving) and swooping techniques for flying head-down are covered. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 192, 292 and 294.
395: Independent Arm Maneuvering and Docking. For making various formations in VRW (freeflying), you will need to be able to move your arms and legs to any position that you desire while staying in delicate control of your relativity and maintaining tension free grips in your slot. This class covers these techniques in detail. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 192, 291, 292, 293 and 294.
396: Relative Transitioning. Expert freeflyers can change from headup to head-down flying stances and vice versa while continuously controlling their relativity. This class addresses the techniques for performing relative transitioning and how you can hone your skills in freefall. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 192, 291, 292, 293 and 294.
397: Extreme Fallrates in VRW. Class participants learn techniques for dealing with extremely slow and fast fallrates in both the headup and head-down flying stances. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 192, 291, 292, 293 and 294.
398: Specialized VRW. Techniques for performing VRW with box-man flyers, skysurfers, freestylists, and more will be covered. Prerequisites: 50, 52, 53, 101, 105, 190, 191, 192, 291, 292, 293, 294 and 397. |
